Do you take Medicaid?
We take all West Virginia Medicaid medical insurance plans but not all Medicaid vision benefits.
Medical insurance covers care for eye health conditions, like infections or diseases, but not exams for glasses.
All children 21 and younger on Medicaid have additional vision benefits that do cover routine vision exams and glasses, and these benefits are provided through a separate vision plan provider.
Managed Care Plan | Vision Benefit Provider |
---|---|
✓ Aetna Better Health of WV | ✓ VSP Medicaid |
✓ Highmark Health Options | |
✓ The Health Plan Medicaid (WVCHiPS) | ❌ Superior Vision (find a doctor) |
✓ Wellpoint WV (formerly UniCare) |
Most adults with Medicaid do not have vision benefits, but check your plan details. If you are an adult on Medicaid without vision benefits, you can self-pay for your vision exam and take advantage of our 25% discount for payment in full on the date of service. If you’d like to pay for your exam in installments, we accept CareCredit and can help you apply for an account.
If you have diabetes or another medical condition of the eye, we’ll need a diagnosis or referral from your primary care doctor to bill your new patient appointment. If you also want a glasses prescription you’ll be responsible for the refraction fee, which is not billable to medical insurance.
